I had been admiring these type of quilts for a while and was inspired to create one for my great nephew due on Valentine’s Day 2015… which happens to be today! He hasn’t made his arrival into the world yet, but we are all anxiously awaiting and so in preparation I have finished a special blanket that I hope will offer him lots of cuddles and a place for “tummy time”.
The fabric was chosen by his mama, who is a yoga instructor and well, sort of a hippie you might say. So the colors and patterns are probably not your “typical” nursery theme, but they look awesome together!
The construction was pretty simple. For this sewing project I cut 20 9-inch squares for the top using the cotton print fabric (pre-washed), 20 9-inch squares for the back (flannel print) and 20 9-inch squares of a flannel fabric (you don’t see) in the middle to give the blanket an extra layer of softness.
The video I turned to for help in the assembly and finishing was created by Angel (FleeceFun.com). As she says, “It is fun, fast and easier than you think!”
