This easy Pita Bread Recipe makes 7 rounds
One of my favorite things to make is bread and although I can make it from scratch with all the hand kneading I really prefer to let my bread machine do the work. That way I can take the dough out and shape it into a loaf, rolls, or in this case pita rounds! Simple ingredients, homemade goodness.
- 3/4 c milk
- 1 Tbls olive oil
- 2 c bread flour
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp active dry yeast
Add ingredients to the machine according to your manufacturer’s directions. For me I add them in the order given above.
Select dough cycle. When cycle is complete, remove dough from machine. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
Divide into 7 portions; Shape each portion into a smooth ball. On a lightly floured surface, use a rolling pin to roll each ball into a 6-inch circle. Cover dough and let rise about 30 minutes or till slightly puffed.
On a greased baking sheet arrange 2-3 dough rounds. Bake in 450 degree oven for 5-7 minutes or till bread is puffed and tops are beginning to brown, turning once after 3 minutes. Remove from oven. Cool on a wire rack. Repeat with remaining dough.
To serve, cut rounds in half and fill with filling or wrap bread around filling. I like to serve the pita bread with hummus as an appetizer. I cut the rounds into quarters and arrange them in a circle on a serving platter with the hummus or other dip in the middle. So good!
