Summer Poncho Crochet Pattern Part 1 of 2

Crochet Pattern: Summer Poncho

Crochet Pattern: Summer Poncho

A unique crochet pattern for summer

Looking for a project to take on my vacation, I came across this free poncho crochet pattern published on BeautifulCrochetStuff.com, and set to work using all white cotton yarn. The result is a very pretty lightweight poncho that is perfect for summer days or nights. And the cost of the project? About $15!

My Materials and Measurements:

Yarn: Yarn Bee MIMOSA yarn from Hobby Lobby in White 3.5 oz 240 yards (62% cotton, 38% rayon)

Crochet Hook: 3.25 D3 from Joann.com

Stitches Used: ch-chain, sl st-slip stitch, sc-single crochet, dc-double crochet, tc-triple crochet, tc6tog – triple crochet 6 together

Motif: 5×5 in or 13×13 cm

Finished length: 15″ or 39 cm

Finished width when worn: 17″ or 45 cm

MOTIF (I made 21 — 3 rows of 7)

My notes: After you make the first motif, you start the second and begin to connect it in the fourth round of the motif, at 6 points along each side. The diagram from BeautifulCrochetStuff.com helped me to figure this out, as it isn’t written anywhere in the crochet pattern.

I created a quick video on YouTube to show you the joining points if the diagram seems a little daunting to you.

Round 1: make a magic ring, ch-5, 7 dc in the ring with ch-2 between, join with sl st to top of ch-3

Round 2: sl st in ch-2 space, ch-4, 2 tc in same space, * ch-2, 3 tc in next ch-2 space, ch-5, 3 tc in next ch-2 space **, repeat from * to ** twice, ch-2, 3 tc in next ch-2 space, ch-5, join with sl st to top of ch-4

Round 3: ch-4, tc in same space, tc in next 2 tc, * ch-1, tc in next 2 tc, tc2tog in next tc, ch-3, 2 tc in next ch-5 space with ch-3 between, ch-3, tc2tog in next tc, tc in next 2 tc **, repeat from * to ** twice, ch-1, tc in next 2 tc, tc2tog in next tc, ch-3, 2 tc in next ch-5 space with ch-3 between, ch-3, join with sl st t top of ch-4

Round 4: ch-4, tc5tog in next 5 tc, * ch-7, skip ch-3 space, 4 tc with ch-1 between in next ch-3 space, ch-3, 4 tc with ch-1 between in same space, skip ch-3 space, ch-7, tc6tog **, repeat from * to ** twice, ch-7, skip ch-3 space, 4 tc with ch-1 between in next ch-3 space, ch-3, 4 tc with ch-1 between in same space, skip ch-3 space, ch-7, join with sl st to top of ch-4

Part 1 is complete when all motifs are attached together and then the piece is folded in half and hand sewn, attaching in the same 6 points along each motif side.
